Take a look at the first in Rockstar’s series of in-depth gameplay videos for L.A. Noire, “Orientation” is an overview of the game’s core mechanics from searching for clues, to the fundamentals of witness interrogation, and classic action including brawling and shootouts and is all introduced by an American with one hell of a slick voice.
By the way, while it loads, here are some things you might not know about L.A. Noire:
- Each case is based on a real life crime, albeit a few have indulged in a spot of creative licensing in order to make them fit the game’s structure.
- When interviewing suspects it’s possible to make them clam up entirely if you go in too accusatory without having anything to back up your argument. If that happens it’s not just a case of walking out the room and in again, they’re staying tight-lipped. Fear not though, there’s usually more clues to investigate to lead you down the same path to the cases’ conclusion.
- Certain events are time dependent meaning if you take too long to reach a crime scene you’ll see a completely different scene than if you’d rushed there. For example, on the ‘The Fallen Idol’ case when Phelps is working on traffic, you’ll have to reach a movie director’s home. Get there fast and you’ll reach some hoodlums in the process of roughing up the joint, dally and they’ll have long vacated the place.
